DeepSeek-V3.2-Exp · bfloat16 + FP8 index key76.5 KiB
MHA (128 K/V heads) · bfloat1664×4.8 MiB

After this call, at 1,001 positions: 74.8 MiB in use per sequence across all 61 layers, of the 1.2 GiB the reference allocates per sequence slot for 16,384 positions.

Per layer and position: 512 latent + 64 rotary key features in bfloat16, plus the indexer’s 128-feature key in FP8 and its float32 scale; × 61 layers = 78,324 bytes. Full keys (128 × 192) and values (128 × 128) would take 4,997,120 bytes, 64× as much, or 5,005,172 with the indexer key.

When decoding, scores and value mixes run in the latent space for all 128 heads; no key or value is rebuilt (model.py 590–606).

Direct evidence

MLA owns a query down-projection, query RMSNorm and up-projection, a joint key–value down-projection that also emits the shared rotary key, a latent RMSNorm, a key–value up-projection and an output projection.

Direct evidence

In the full-sequence (prefill) path, the latent is up-projected into per-head keys and values; each head’s key joins its non-rotated part with the shared rotary key; scores are scaled, masked by the indexer’s selection and the causal mask, normalized and used to mix values.

Direct evidence

Head outputs are flattened and projected back to the model width.
